Where do we meet? Manhattan Yacht Club (Liberty Harbor Marina)

Look for the Manhattan Yacht Club floating clubhouse and our 12-meter yacht at the dock! Please arrive 15-30 minutes early, especially if driving as parking can be challenging. We recommend public transportation when possible; we are just a block away from the Marin Blvd. lightrail station.
What should I wear and bring? Comfort and safety are key. Please wear soft-soled, non-marking shoes (like deck shoes or standard white-soled sneakers)—no heels, boots, or hard-soled shoes are permitted. We recommend dressing in layers, as it is often cooler and breezier on the water than on land. Don’t forget sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen. And of course, a camera so you can show your friends and family your amazing pictures!
What is provided to drink, and can I bring my own beverages? We provide plenty of water to keep you hydrated on the harbor. You are more than welcome to bring your own adult beverages to enjoy during the sail. However, strictly no red wine is allowed on board, as spills can permanently stain the yacht’s teak decks.
Is there a restroom on board? Because the America II is an authentic, high-performance 12-meter racing yacht built for speed, there are no bathroom conveniences (“heads”) on board. We strongly recommend using the restroom facilities available at the clubhouse ashore before we cast off.
What happens if the weather is bad? We sail as long as the winds and conditions are safe. Because weather in the New York Harbor region is hyper-local and can change rapidly, we typically do not make the final “go/no-go” call until a couple of hours before the sail. Occasionally, if conditions shift suddenly, a cancellation call may be made right at the dock at sailing time.
What is your cancellation and refund policy? If we are forced to cancel your sail due to weather or safety concerns, we will work closely with you to reschedule your adventure for another available date. If we cannot find a date that works for you, we will fully refund your payment.
Is sailing on a racing yacht safe? Sailing these high-performance yachts is an incredible adventure, and like any active water sport, inherent risks of injury do exist. However, your USCG-licensed captain and the experienced America II crew are highly trained. They work meticulously to ensure your safety and enjoyment remain at peak levels from dock to dock.
What if I get seasick? The waters in the harbor are generally manageable, but people do sometimes experience motion sickness. If you start to feel a bit green, don’t worry—our crew has a few tricks up their sleeves to help you feel better and get back to enjoying the sail.
Can I bring food or snacks? You are welcome to bring light snacks. We recommend simple, easy-to-eat items that don’t require utensils or significant prep, as you’ll be on a moving, leaning vessel. Avoid bringing large, hard-sided coolers, as deck space is limited.
Should I tip the captain and crew? If you had a fantastic experience, a gratuity is always highly appreciated. Tipping your crew (customarily 15-20% of the base ticket price) is a great way to say thank you for their hard work in keeping you safe and showing you the ropes.
