12 Meters are the most iconic racing yachts in America. They competed for the America’s Cup from 1958 to 1987.

The 12 Meter Heritage Cup brings a fleet of these yachts to New York Harbor every spring for a celebration of sailing and history. This is a unique opportunity for local sailors and sailing enthusiasts to watch and participate in the magic of 12 Meter sailing.

How to Race

You can buy an individual ticket to race on one of the 12 Meters. Tickets are $295 per race session. Buy a Ticket Here

If you have a group of 10 or more people, you can charter one of the 12 Meters. The charter fee is $3,500 per session (there are two sessions on Saturday and if you take both, the fee is reduced from $7,000 to $5,000). Charter a 12 Meter

Two races are scheduled each session. Racing is around short courses. All racing is non-spinnaker which makes it easy to participate, even for novice sailors. The 12 Meters come with a captain & crew which can sail the boat. Your team will also be invited to help race the boat based on your skill and experience.

How to Watch the Races

The NY Harbor Sailing Foundation has arranged for Arabella to be one of the spectator boats for the 12 Meter Heritage Regatta. You can buy tickets to watch the exciting competition onboard this 157-foot mega yacht.

Tickets are $150 per person and includes a picnic lunch or dinner from Whole Foods catering. There will also be a race announcer onboard to explain the competition and let you know who is winning at any point.

Go for a Pleasure Sail on a 12 Meter

While the 12 Meters are in NY Harbor, they will also be offering pleasure sails. This is a great way to experience the beauty and history of the 12 Meters without having to compete in a race.

Pleasure sails will take place during the day on Thursday & Friday as well as all day on Sunday (a great way to celebrate Father’s Day).

About the NY Harbor Sailing Foundation

The NY Harbor Sailing Foundation brings these iconic 12 Meters to the New York harbor to foster and promote recreation and to give more people the opportunity to see and race on these historic 12 Meters. We thank the participating 12 Meters and their owners!

Another purpose of the 12 Meter Heritage Regatta is to help support these historic yachts. The Foundation’s goal is to raise $20,000 for each 12 Meter over the course of 4 days. 12 Meters represent the epitome of American yachting tradition.

We encourage all sailors to support these historic yachts, either here in NY Harbor or at other regattas. For information about chartering a 12 Meter in events like the Opera House Cup in Nantucket, the Edgartown 12 Meter Regatta in Martha’s Vineyard, or the 12 Meter North Americas in Newport, please contact Commodore Michael Fortenbaugh at commodore@myc.org who will connect you with the appropriate owner.

The New York Harbor Sailing Foundation’s mission is to foster and promote amateur sailing of national and international importance in New York Harbor. The Foundation is a non-profit corporation recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

The main programs of the New York Harbor Sailing Foundation include the Lady Liberty Regatta (NY Harbor’s premiere all-women’s event), Operation Optimist (the largest junior sailing program in the harbor) and the 12 Meter Program (preserving these important pieces of American yachting tradition).
