Buy a Ticket to Race on a 12 Meter

Regatta Home

You can race in the 12 Meter Heritage Regatta by purchasing your own race ticket. This is an incredible and thrilling opportunity to experience the beauty and power of one of the historic 12 Meters.

You do not need to be an expert or experienced sailor to race onboard. Anyone can do it. If you are an experienced sailor, just let the captain know and maybe you will be invited to help call tactics or grind a winch. The regatta is set up as a non-spinnaker event which makes it possible for normal people to sail (if the yachts were using spinnakers, only professional sailors could race).

Race tickets are $295 per person and you can use the form below to buy them. Race sessions will be Thursday & Friday evening as well as Saturday afternoon and evening.

If you have you own group of 12 or more people, then you can charter the full boat for yourself.

All monies raised through individual tickets goes towards supporting these historic America’s Cup 12 Meters. Thank you for sailing onboard and helping to preserve these important pieces of American yachting tradition.

  • Terms and Conditions for tickets and boat charters in the 12 Meter Heritage Regatta:
    1) Purpose: The purpose of this regatta is to provide financial support for historic 12 Meters so that the class continues to inspire the next generation of sailors.
    2) Nonrefundable: Once purchased, tickets are non-refundable. The 12 Meters incur large up-front expenses (such as several days of travel) to offer you an opportunity to sail in this NY Harbor regatta. This only works when there is specific revenue guarantee. If you are unable to attend the event, you may sell or transfer your ticket to another person.
    3) Weather Risk: In any sailboat, the weather risk is borne by the sailors, in this case the ticket holders or charter groups. This means the tickets and charter fees are considered earned when purchased and when the yacht is available at the venue, regardless of whether races take place or not. Weather such as storms, and either too much or too little wind determine whether races can be started and/or completed. A ticket or charter fee earns you the opportunity to be part of the regatta experience, from sitting on the boat, to hopefully going out in the harbor.
    4) Ticket Agent: NY Harbor Sailing Foundation is only a ticket agent: The Foundation is collecting your ticket fee and giving 100% of that fee to the 12 Meter you will be sailing on. The ticket purchaser agrees that the Foundation has no liability with regards to the 12 Meters and sailing there on.
    5) No-Sail: If your yacht is not able to race due to breakdown or other problem, you will still be able to board the yacht at dock and the yacht will still attempt to provide a platform for you to watch the races.
    6) Hold Harmless: The ticket purchaser or charterer asserts they are voluntarily participating in this regatta and understand that sailing is a sport which involves risk such as injury, loss or damage. The ticket purchaser or charter agrees that they share the responsibility for safety and agree to practice safe boating. The ticket purchasers or charterer agree to hold harmless the New York Harbor Sailing Foundation, Inc., their agents, officers and employees from all claims of injury to person or property arising from their participation in this regatta.
