Charter a 12 Meter for Your Club or Organization

Regatta Home

If you have a group of people, you can charter one of the 12 Meters and race under your own flag.

For the 12 Meter Heritage Regatta 2023, there is already a group of Harvard alumni getting together to charter American Eagle (which is crimson red). Not to be outdone, there is another group of Princeton alumni who are chartering America II (close to black in color) and planning on racing her on all 3 days, including the Women’s Championship. There is also a group of Columbia alumni trying to get together to race (if you are a Columbia grad, send a note to office@nyharborsailing.com).

Other college alumni groups or clubs are also encouraged to organize but please do so quickly, while there is still a boat available!

There are three 12 Meters available for charter in the 12 Meter Heritage Regatta, American Eagle, Nefertiti and Weatherly.

Use the form below to charter a 12 Meter for a company, organization, club or group of people. The charter fee is $3,500 per session. The sessions are:

1) Thursday, June 15, 2023 – 6 pm to dusk (2 races scheduled)
Corporate Championship – Organizations and companies can field a team to race

2) Friday, June 16, 2023 – 6 pm to dusk (2 races scheduled)
Women’s Championship –All-women teams are encouraged to compete on this day

3) Saturday, June 17, 2023 – Afternoon Session – 11 am to 2pm

4) Saturday, June 17, 2023 – Evening Session – 4 to 7 pm
Club Championship – This is a championship for all social, university and yachting clubs

  • If you charter a 12 Meter for the full day on Saturday, the charter fee for your 2 sessions is discounted from $7,000 to $5,000.
  • If you charter a 12 Meter for the Thursday or Friday races, you can also upgrade your charter to have use of the 12 Meter for the entire day. This will let you bring more people sailing onboard during the day. You can use the additional sailing time to take friends or co-workers sailing past the Statue of Liberty, or use it for your team to do some race training. The upgrade fee is $1,500 and makes your full day charter $5,000.

All monies raised through the charter fees goes towards supporting these historic America’s Cup 12 Meters. Thank you for sailing onboard and helping to preserve these important pieces of American yachting tradition.

Terms and Conditions for tickets and boat charters in the 12 Meter Heritage Regatta:
1) Purpose: The purpose of this regatta is to provide financial support for historic 12 Meters so that the class continues to inspire the next generation of sailors.
2) Nonrefundable: Once purchased, tickets are non-refundable. The 12 Meters incur large up-front expenses (such as several days of travel) to offer you an opportunity to sail in this NY Harbor regatta. This only works when there is specific revenue guarantee. If you are unable to attend the event, you may sell or transfer your ticket to another person.
3) Weather Risk: In any sailboat, the weather risk is borne by the sailors, in this case the ticket holders or charter groups. This means the tickets and charter fees are considered earned when purchased and when the yacht is available at the venue, regardless of whether races take place or not. Weather such as storms, and either too much or too little wind determine whether races can be started and/or completed. A ticket or charter fee earns you the opportunity to be part of the regatta experience, from sitting on the boat, to hopefully going out in the harbor.
4) Ticket Agent: NY Harbor Sailing Foundation is only a ticket agent: The Foundation is collecting your ticket fee and giving 100% of that fee to the 12 Meter you will be sailing on. The ticket purchaser agrees that the Foundation has no liability with regards to the 12 Meters and sailing there on.
5) No-Sail: If your yacht is not able to race due to breakdown or other problem, you will still be able to board the yacht at dock and the yacht will still attempt to provide a platform for you to watch the races.
6) Hold Harmless: The ticket purchaser or charterer asserts they are voluntarily participating in this regatta and understand that sailing is a sport which involves risk such as injury, loss or damage. The ticket purchaser or charter agrees that they share the responsibility for safety and agree to practice safe boating. The ticket purchasers or charterer agree to hold harmless the New York Harbor Sailing Foundation, Inc., their agents, officers and employees from all claims of injury to person or property arising from their participation in this regatta.
