12 Meter Syndicate Code of Conduct
Our 12 Meter Syndicate Code of Conduct establishes these guidelines for participation.
1. Vision: This 12 Meter program was founded by the Manhattan Yacht Club and its Members. Previous Syndicate members have paved the way for you today. It is expected that you will also contribute more than you receive, so that future sailors have more opportunities like you have today.
2. Respect for History: 12 Meters represent the spirit and tradition of American yachting. Our Syndicate is responsible for preserving this history and sharing it with sailors today, and into the future. We are also writing the next chapter in the history of our 12 Meters, and working to make them famous ambassadors for the 12 Meter Class and America’s Cup history.
3. Sportsmanship: Our 12 Meter Syndicate members shall always exhibit a high level of sportsmanship. We shall be friendly and supportive to our fellow Syndicate members, and also towards fellow competitors who dignify us by coming to the starting line.
4. Privilege & Voluntary Donation: I agree that it is a privilege to join the 12 Meter Syndicate and be a caretaker of these historic America’s Cup 12 Meters. My donation is voluntary, non-refundable and shall be used towards the annual costs of the 12 Meter Program. I am making my donation without any expectation of sailing time or privileges. I will try to help the Foundation activate the boats by crewing when they go sailing for training and/or fundraising purposes.
5. Fundraising: To be good caretakers of our 12 Meters, we must engage in fundraising to cover operating and restoration costs, and build an endowment to ensure the future of these important pieces of American yachting history. All 12 Meter Syndicate members are expected to help to the best of your ability with additional fundraising beyond your annual contribution.
